CONSERVATION VOLUNTEERS NEW ZEALAND

How CVNZ gained from Nómadas' experience in digital product redesigns and social media optimization.

about CVNZ

Founded in 2006, Conservation Volunteers leads with the mission of participation, for all to be involved in managing and protecting the environment of Aotearoa (New Zealand). Projects include protecting threatened species, tree planting, seed collection, weed control, flora and fauna surveys, building tracks, trails, and fencing. They have hosted 11,000 volunteer events, planted 1M trees, propagated 500,000 plants, eradicated 455 hectares of weeds, and collected 65,000 kg of rubbish.

[Even the small can make a big impact on the big.]

— Māori proverb

CVNZ had challenges with the usability of their website, a top source for communicating with their volunteers, partners, and peers. Some priority programs were either difficult to find or not present on the site. Also, they were looking to take their social media strategy to the next level.

As with many not-for-profit organizations, budgets and resources are a challenge particularly in the digital and social space. Nómadas chose to partner with CVNZ in a pro bono capacity to help a great organization continue to foster the mission of a sustainable environment and an honored taiao [natural world].

LISTEN

As with all projects, we started by asking questions and listening deeply. Stakeholder interviews and brainstorms were imperative to get subject matter expertise before diving in. This uncovered crucial takeaways about the organization, their past, and their future.

FOCUS

With so much great work to illustrate, we found it imperative to focus and prioritize. Use cases and workflows that target high value audiences and calls to actions were highlighted in the website redesign and social media strategy.

ENABLE

Knowing there was sadly an end to our work together, it was important to not just toss our work over the fence. We had thorough hand-off sessions and provided detailed documentation as a tool for keeping the outputs flowing and provide ongoing value.

  • Market and industry research

  • Website analytics review

  • Social media analytics review

  • Business and functional requirements documentation for website redesign

  • Rounds of feedback and iteration on drafts

  • Client enablement through in-person sessions
